In what is quickly becoming an annual tradition, ten students from the University of the West Indies (UWI) St. Augustine Campus’ Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering visited Teleios Systems Limited on January 30, 2015. The purpose of the visit was to increase the year-one students’ knowledge and awareness of the core five thematic courses which comprise the field of electrical and computer engineering (Control Systems, Communication Systems, Computer System Engineering, Energy Systems and Electronic Systems). The visit also helped the students to gain firsthand experience understanding the roles and significance of the electrical and computer engineer within industry.
Beginning with a warm, enthusiastic welcome by Irwin Williams, Cloud and Mobility Group Lead and Developer at Teleios, the students spent the next few hours speaking with a cross-section of other Teleios employees. From Human Resources, the students learned about signing NDAs, resume writing and applying for jobs. Sales and Marketing provided an overview of the various services and products offered by Teleios, including a case study of a project called Meggie Wars. The students also had the opportunity to speak with members of the 2014 TCJ (Teleios Code Jam) Team Unbeatable, who inspired the students in their journey of becoming world-class software developers.
This visit represents an ongoing commitment from Teleios to “give back” and continuously develop the software and technology ecosystem in Trinidad & Tobago. Recently celebrating our 18th anniversary as a company, these interactions provide a great opportunity for Teleios to share its culture, values and approaches to building a firm in the software industry. We look forward to ongoing interactions with the students through Teleios Code Jam events, internships and other developmental activities.
